Space Dyeing on Protein Fibers
Of all the dyeing methods to explore, space dyeing is my absolute favorite! It is a fantastic way to quickly get a lot of color onto your yarn or roving. It is the LEAST repeatable method, and the one that is the LEAST controlled, however I have never failed to =love= the myriad of colors that develop from dropping 2 - 3 dye colors into a pot. So grab your pot, your dyes, your fiber and a little serendipity, and you will be amazed at the wonderful colors you can capture.
Supplies to bring to class:
1. 4 ounces of protein fiber roving or yarn. Tie the yarn in a long skein with at least 3, preferably 4 figure eight ties, loose enough for 2 fingers
2. An enamel or stainless steel dye pot and lid, 3 pint size jars
3. Apron, gloves, mask and protective eyewear
4. notebook and pen
